In May 1967 a group of Christians started having prayer meetings in the home of Laura Jo King. Then they met at the Britt David Community Center near the airport for two weeks. God made it possible for them to purchase property at 3314 Cody Road. Several men from the congregation signed the note for the loan. The church started with 45 members. Services were held in the large house on the property until the present church was built. 

The new church building was built under the pastorate of Rev. James H. Standifer. The new building was dedicated on June 14. 1970. Rev. Aaron M. Wall was the speaker for the dedication service. The church was named College Heights Assembly of God.

On November 1, 1977 Faith Tabernacle A/G merged with the congregation of College Heights A/G. Rev. John Knighton who was pastor of Faith Tabernacle became the pastor of the new congregation. Steve Comer was the Youth Pastor.

On March 5, 1989 the congregation of Christ Assembly of God became a part of the College Heights A/G. The pastor of Christ A/G, Rev. Wayne Veal, became the new pastor.

On April 1, 1989 the church name was changed to Cody Road A/G.

On October 1, 1993 the name of the church was changed to University Avenue A/G because the name of the street was changed from Cody Road to University Avenue. Rev. Billy Cotton was pastor at this time.

On March 16, 1997 Rev. Jerry Sauls became the Pastor. Pastor Sauls was the Pastor for almost twenty years.

On August 14, 2016 Rev. Bruce Willingham became the Pastor.

On September 1, 2019 Rev. David Edward Ray became the Pastor.

God has blessed this church with some very Godly Pastors and a loving friendly congregation.
